SEO
Any small business should be taking advantage of SEO (search engine optimization) and especially on a local basis.
For most businesses local search is still not that competitive and can provide free traffic to your website. It should be noted that this may soon not be the case. More and more businesses are getting active on the web and engaging SEO practices. Those who start now will have an edge over their competition in the future that could be very valuable.
There are two types of SEO
- On-Page – which involves the use of keywords and tags within the code of the page. In many local environments a well done on-page SEO effort can be enough to put you on the first page of an organic search for your keyword.
- Off-page - this is the bigger side of SEO and involves getting links to your site and working a smart linking strategy. In the long run it is the off-page efforts that will move you higher on the page and get you listed for your various keywords.
You should not invest money in SEO or pay-per-click campaigns unless you have a call to action and list building strategies in place as doing so will waste much of your investment in these practices.
